The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit is a non-profit organisation that supports informed debate on energy and climate change issues in the UK. In November, we are taking a delegation of UK MPs to the UN climate summit, COP30. We are looking for a paid intern (London Living Wage) to support a project to take UK MPs to COP30. This is an exciting opportunity for students or recent graduates with an interest in climate change to work with our team from late summer to early November.
This post will work to support planning, briefing and logistics for the Belém programme, as well as support to deliver in-person events with delegate MPs in Parliament beforehand. Whilst the post-holder will not be required to go to Brazil, we want you to be in post whilst the delegation is at COP, (12-14 November).
Depending on the intensity and timing of work on the COP programme, there may also be capacity to work to support other ECIU projects with analysis, communications, planning and logistics support, and digital outputs.
You should have:
– An interest in climate and energy issues in the UK and/or beyond.
– An interest in and some understanding of UK politics, and the political and economic context in which delivery of net zero sits.
– Enthusiasm for, and preferably some experience (whether in employment, personal or academic context) of qualitative analysis (e.g. literature review)
– Effective and straightforward communication skills
– a willingness to pick up the phone and get stuff done.
– Willingness to work in a team, and independently, seeking guidance and support where needed, and working to deadlines.
– Ability to be innovative and creative, motivated and able to work across issues, and with people at any level.
– Attention to detail and accuracy.
It would be a bonus if you had:
– Some experience of planning and organising events.
– Some understanding of the UK media and social media space.
We value diversity and inclusion and are keen to make our sector more welcoming and accessible to a greater diversity of backgrounds. We welcome applicants from groups currently under-represented in our sector, including: people from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background; people from a socially or economically disadvantaged background; people who consider themselves to have a disability.
You must have the right to work in the UK.
This post is funded for a total of 280 hours at £13.85 per hour (London Living Wage). Our preference is that this is worked as three-four days per week between August and November, but we are flexible within and immediately around our normal office hours of 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. The only fixed point would be to ensure you finished no earlier than the end of the week commencing 10th November.
Please send: (1) your CV; and (2) a covering letter, no longer than two pages, including a short paragraph detailing one previous experience that you think makes you a great candidate for this role, along with other evidence you meet the job requirements. Send to [email protected] before midnight on Tuesday 8th July, with the subject line Internship application.
