The National Defense Institute (IDN) is a Portuguese public institution, supervised by the Portuguese Ministry of National Defense, based in Lisbon. IDN's mission is to support the formulation of the national strategic thinking, and to promote the study, research and dissemination of security and defense matters.. Despite being part of the Ministry of National Defense, in the exercise of its powers, IDN enjoys scientific and pedagogical autonomy.
