In 2021, the Institute of Strategic Affairs and the Ethiopian Foreign Relations Training Institute merged to create the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA). IFA was established with the mission to provide alternative policy directions and recommendations by carrying out research and analysis activities on foreign affairs, to produce qualified foreign relations professionals through training and capacity building, and to serve as a center of excellence in diplomatic knowledge and experience. IFA serves as a think tank under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
