The Reiss Center on Law and Security is a non-partisan multidisciplinary research institute focused on cultivating an informed dialogue, educating the next generation of leaders, and fostering groundbreaking research on the vital law and policy questions that will shape the national security field for years to come.

The NYU Center for Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary research institute at New York University that is dedicated to training current and future generations of cybersecurity professionals and to shaping both public discourse and the legal, policy and technological landscape on issues of cybersecurity.

The Reiss Center on Law and Security (RCLS) at NYU School of Law and the NYU Center for Cybersecurity (CCS) are seeking an enterprising, dynamic Program Associate. The Program Associate role offers an opportunity to contribute to all aspects of our work on many of the most challenging national security and cybersecurity issues of our time.

We are looking for a collegial teammate who is enthusiastic about learning new subjects and skills; who is sharp, self-driven, and dedicated to quality output; and who maintains good judgment and attention to detail while working across multiple projects.

Key roles and responsibilities

• Conduct research and draft memos on national security, foreign policy, and cybersecurity issues – ranging from news-driven rapid response initiatives to major, multi-month innovative research projects.
• Help design and execute how we communicate our work, including by managing the centers’ WordPress-based websites and Mailchimp distributions, creating outreach materials, and enhancing our online presence through social media and other outreach.
• Coordinate event preparation and logistics for both virtual and in-person events, and provide day-of staffing and other support.
• Assist in conceiving and developing new programs and initiatives.
• Liaise with the centers’ fellows and external partners, speakers, and other leaders in the field to further the centers’ programming, and engage with the national security-focused student community at NYU Law.
• Assist the centers’ leadership with preparation for their national security and cybersecurity coursework at NYU Law.
• Provide occasional research and support for Just Security.
• Assist the Operations Manager with finance and other administrative tasks, including working with and supervising student interns.

Experience and skills expected of the post holder

Relevant background and training

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area, including International Relations, Political Science, History, or related field.
• Background and interest in U.S. foreign policy and national security, and/or cybersecurity and tech policy.
• At least one year of relevant professional experience and/or advanced degree preferred.

Skills and commitment

• Excellent research, proofreading and editing skills, with a commitment to quality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work calmly in a fast-paced environment, including with quick-turnaround projects.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others but also to act as a self-starter with substantial independence and keen judgment.
• Ability to work occasional evening or off-hours for events or other demands.

Tools and programs

• Comfort with or willingness to become fluent with:

  • WordPress
  • Mailchimp
  • Zoom meetings and webinar management
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat).
  • Social media: X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.

• Experience with visual design and branding preferred.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,000-63,000.
